What is a sales letter? Simple: it’s a salesperson in an envelope. It should get the prospect’s attention, introduce the company, explain the offer, and make the call to action.

How long should a sales letter be? As long at it needs to be. That said, I don’t belong to the long sales letter school. You know the style: pages and pages of breathless copy that beats the prospect over the head with one argument after another until they either give in and buy it or give up and bin it. Either way, you lose.

My guiding rule? Keep it short and simple. They’ll thank you for it.

Here are some sales letter samples. I’ve removed certain identifying words and phrases to respect clients’ privacy.
