It's always best to avoid sugarcoating and get straight to the point. But I would caution people to remember that being a "plain speaker" doesn't mean eliminating metaphor and image-driven language. Often enough, a metaphor is a plainer way of speaking. Plain speaking means "remember your reader/listener and make it easy for them to understand you". Great post man =) These are words to live by.
